New England residents take note, three of Boston’s most beloved institutions are all converging in September for two nights of Beantown wickedness.  On September 8th and 9th, the Dropkick Murphys and The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones are playing the home of the Green Monster, the legendary Fenway Park.  Fenway has played host to other extraordinary evenings of live music featuring Phish and the Dave Matthews Band, but this reunion show is unlike any other because it features some of Boston’s favorite sons.

In a twist of fate, the Dropkick Murphys are headlining the September dates and have invited the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones to open.  The two bands toured together in 2008 with the Bosstones opening but it was the Bosstones who gave the Murphys their first big break when they invited them to open back in 1997.  Since then the Dropkick Murphys earned their stars the way most bands do, playing everywhere and selling Dropkick Murphys tickets, with one exception, their epic St. Patrick’s Day-week shows.  With their specific brand of Celtic-punk, Dropkick Murphys Boston tickets sell out in record time.

The Dropkick Murphys got their name from a rehab center in Connecticut and the individual who would come around to pick up all the drunks at the end of the night.  Their songs have become staples at Boston Red Sox and Celtics games and I’m Shipping Up to Boston was featured in the cult film Boondock Saints and Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award-winning The Departed.  The Dropkick Murphys played on a flatbed truck during the Boston Red Sox 2007 World Series victory parade and relief pitcher Jonathan Papelbon rode with them and danced his famous Irish jig while they played I’m Shipping Up to Boston, Tessie, Dirty Water, For Boston, The State of Massachusetts and Sunshine Highway.

Fellow Boston natives The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones sell their fair share of Mighty Bosstones tickets for the ska-punk that they originated and helped popularize with hit singles like The Impression That I Get and their sweaty, energetic shows which even the Dropkick Murphys have said are some of the best they’ve ever seen.  Landing Mighty, Mighty Bosstones Fenway tickets is going to be a feat with all of the Boston fans lining up to see these two Beantown giants at the one and only Fenway park.

Both shows go on sale at noon on Thursday, July 7.  A portion of the proceeds from both shows will be donated to the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund for the victims and families of 9/11.
